Bacteria can produce acquired resistance to florfenicol and show cross resistance with thiamphenicol, but due to the inactivation of acetyltransferase, bacteria resistant to chloramphenicol are still sensitive to florfenicol. It is mainly used for bacterial diseases of fish, such as furuncle disease.
